Of all the things that one regrets in their life,
Not having found love is the one with most strife.
Were they looking for something that wasn't in the cards?
Should they have been more lenient with their rigid standards?
But perhaps the question that causes the most regret
"Could I have passed up love and not even known it?
Could I have been too careless and given up too fast
On a perfect relationship, which could forever last?"
That first night you met; sloughed through the snow,
Necking under a full moon, the kisses did flow
Seven days together, a week elapsed,
Perfection achieved, happiness at last
But he had to go hundreds of miles back to school
College prevented him from being with you
And the distance provided enough disillusion
The glorious week; now regrets, now confusion
Sometimes petty thoughts cloud our brain,
And we make decisions too quickly; in vain.
We don't think of what could or may happen.
We give up too quickly for instant satisfaction.
And in so
Lack of sleep
Double edged blade
Adrenal glands gush forth
Motor reflexes wane
Fingers fly across the keys
Pencil darts across the pad
Output plus ten-fold
Quality's not too bad
Neural threads fly faster
Dopamine cracks like a whip
Endorphins provide a high
But shit that's just the tip
As time goes on
The ashtray fills
The 2-liter drains
Take 3 aleve pills
The migraine comes down
Like an eagle on its prey
Hurts to think
Hurts to see
Hurts to breathe
Hurts to be
Is it still tonite you pose?
Or the following day?
Aleve kicks in
Respite from the lash
But its almost afternoon
High chance for a crash
Neural threads near overload
Domamine's down to a drip
Endorphin cache is empty
The shakes too strong to grip
Mental timebomb ticking
Collapse; inevitable trend
Ain't no fucking wire to cut
Dynamite burning at both ends
The only way to douse the fuse
Give up the game
Hit the hay
And sleep away the day.
Her CatalystAs she walks through the maelstrom, the words trace upon the tips of her fingers and press into the stone. Every brick, every crack in the concrete, every crossed and angular stroke in reds and blacks and oranges. The drips of the gasoline pool around the base of her boots, slosh as she steps over the burst pipes and the rubble.
So much rubble. So little outcry. The silence of the city grates on her eardrums and the mantras she'd been forced to memorize. The Seers demanded they observe thirteen years of recitation before they attempt to weave their first World together.
But who other than the Seers can claim the incantations that knot the skeins they twist and pull on like reins hold fast? When have any of the Sisters recorded the visions they traced upon space-time and recited them, left them open for critique and discussion and debate?
Which is why she walks through the chalky soot of the smashed city around her. This all
